Broad browning after sustained heat and dry soil usually fits summer dormancy, as long as the turf stays rooted and the crowns at soil level feel firm.
Brown patches that lift loose, spread as rings, smell rotten, or show no new basal growth once cooler weather and moisture return need another diagnosis.
