Diagnose: Kentucky Bluegrass Summer Dormancy
Follow these steps to identify and confirm the problem.
- Drought dormancy when browning is broad and crowns remain firm
- Broad browning after sustained heat and dry soil usually fits summer dormancy when the turf remains rooted and the crowns at soil level feel firm. Brown patches that lift loose, form expanding rings, smell rotten, or show no new basal growth after cooler weather and restored moisture need another diagnosis.
