Diagnosis
Diagnose: Boston Fern Brown Tips
Follow these steps to identify and confirm the problem.
- The root ball has dried out and now sheds water instead of absorbing it.
- Look at where the brown sits before deciding anything. Tips browning evenly across the whole plant point at water supply, humidity, salts or the tap water itself. Damage concentrated on one side points at a radiator, a draught or direct sun. Whole old fronds browning from the base while new ones unfurl from the centre is a fern behaving normally. Then lift the pot, because a dry root ball weighs dramatically less than a wet one and that tells you more than touching the surface does.
