Diagnose: Azalea No Blooms

1. Flower buds were removed by pruning after they had already formed.
2. Look at the stem tips before you do anything else, because the answer splits in two there. Plump rounded buds at the tips mean the plant made its flowers and then lost them, which points to cold, a late frost, or the fungus that leaves buds brown and firm. Nothing but slim pointed leaf buds means the flowers were never made at all, which points to the pruning date, shade, nitrogen, or a dry late summer.
